Busways
The TransLink Transit Authority is delivering a unique busway network designed specifically to suit South East Queensland's dispersed region and communities.
Eventually, you'll be able to travel on a bus from one side of the city to the other without leaving your seat. Busways will fill the gaps between existing rail lines to complete Brisbane's major public transport network.
Busways are dedicated roadway that separate buses from general traffic. Like our popular and successful train network, busways offer commuters a congestion-free run on fast, frequent and reliable services.
Core sections of the busway network are in place, with the South East Busway and Inner Northern Busway (Royal Children's Hospital to Queen Street) already operational.
A number of busway projects are currently being constructed or in detailed planning stages, including the Eastern Busway, Northern Busway and Boggo Road Busway. These busways will form part of a complete busway network for Brisbane that will greatly benefit the whole city.
For passengers, busways offer:
- faster travel times - a busway is used only by buses and emergency vehicles, and allows buses to avoid congestion, especially during peak traffic periods
- better reliability through consistent trip times - each journey will always take the same time, as services are not influenced by traffic congestion
- greater frequency and variety of bus services to choose from - express, rocket and all-stop services all use busways
- a single-seat journey - suburban buses are able to access busways at key locations, providing a point-to-point journey from your local bus stop
- new travel opportunities - increased connectivity with other modes of transport means interchanging to other bus, rail or ferry services is even easier.
Busways feature purpose-built bus stations, with 24-hour security, electronic bus information and full accessibility for mobility, visually and hearing impaired people. Bicycle access and racks are also provided where appropriate.
