Project background
The Queensland Government, through the TransLink Transit Authority, is making public transport easier to catch with the construction of the Park Ridge park 'n' ride.
This $4.3 million project will provide a new park 'n' ride facility located on the Mount Lindesay Highway near Crest Road, allowing commuters to park their cars and transfer to a nearby bus service to complete their journey.
Construction is scheduled to commence in February 2010 and is expected to take around four months to complete.
Benefits of the park 'n' ride
- assist in reducing congestion along the Mt Lindesay Highway between Brisbane and Logan City by increasing public transport use - for every full bus there are 40 fewer cars on the road
- assist in encouraging more people to use public transport for most of their journey
- assist in helping to reduce greenhouse emissions by reducing vehicle kilometres travelled
- assist in reducing parking demand on local streets near bus stops.
Key features of the park 'n' ride project
- parking for approximately 200 vehicles
- four disabled parking bays close to the bus platform
- direct pedestrian and bicycle access
- a kiss 'n' ride area and taxi rank for dropping off and picking up bus passengers
- secure bicycle storage facility
- a comfortable and secure waiting environment for passengers with sheltered areas, seating, security cameras and lighting
- landscaping using drought resistant plants.
Will the bus services change?
At this stage there are no planned changes to services already operating in the local area. Passengers will be informed of any changes to local bus services prior to the changes being implemented.
Traffic conditions
During construction, signage and traffic controllers will direct road users around works and every effort will be made to keep disruptions to a minimum.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
