The Queensland Government, as part of the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program 2008, has committed A$297 million to deliver CoastConnect: Caloundra to Maroochydore Quality Bus Corridor, an initiative to improve public transport and manage the pressures of population growth on Sunshine Coast roads.
Consultation on the CoastConnect concept designs has now closed. Local residents and businesses were encouraged to have their say on the designs between Monday 8 September and Friday 17 October 2008. Currently, the Sunshine Coast has the lowest rate of public transport use in south east Queensland. We want to change that, and make sure the Sunshine Coast keeps its clean and green reputation. In 2006 a pre-feasibility study was conducted to identify a potential alignment for the bus corridor between Caloundra and Maroochydore. This early planning was done to identify an alignment that would deliver the most benefits with the least impacts. Queensland Transport is now developing a Concept Design and Impact Management Plan (CDIMP) to assess the benefits and impacts of CoastConnect alignment options. The final CDIMP will:

The CoastConnect project will be delivered in stages over several years. This means we can improve the most congested sections first and reduce impacts on communities, businesses and road users. Construction will occur in a logical sequence to minimise disruptions.
