 Safety
Safety is one of the TransLink Transit Authority's highest priorities. The TransLink Transit Authority wants all passengers to have a safe and enjoyable journey when using public transport.
TransLink Transit Officers are experienced and dedicated to improving and upholding safety and security, and making certain passengers are safe and comfortable during their journey.
Passengers often need assistance with various aspects of travel experience. If you have any questions or need assistance while travelling on TransLink services, please approach a Transit Officer - they are there to help you.
To maximise your safety and security, the TransLink Transit Authority provides:
- designated train services and train carriages patrolled by guards
- busway safety officers who patrol busways 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- help phones inside trains and on busway station platforms
- closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) to monitor trains, rail and busway stations
- core safety zones on train platforms, with enhanced lighting and emergency phones. These areas are clearly marked with a blue and white striped line behind the yellow safety line.
Below are some tips to maximise your safety.
Bus
- wait at the bus stop where you can signal and be seen by the driver
- stand back from the kerb
- wait for the bus to stop before boarding
Train
- stand well back when a train approaches the station platform
- watch out for the gap between the platform and train
Ferry
- give way to disembarking passengers
- wait until signalled by the ferry operator before boarding
Transit Officers may be on board all TransLink services including buses, trains and ferries, and have the authority to: - ask you to show your ticket and if applicable your concession card
- issue on the spot fines for ticket and behaviour offences
- request proof of name, age and address
- remove people from TransLink services (when necessary).
