Entire cycleway reopened A project milestone has been achieved for the Boggo Road Busway Alliance with the reopening of the entire cycleway from Annerley Road across the Eleanor Schonell Bridge to the University of Queensland. The reopening of the cycleway will ensure pedestrians and cyclists have separate access routes to and from the university and will no longer share a path from Gladstone Road down to the Eleanor Schonell Bridge (see map below). The project would like to thank cyclists and pedestrians for their patience during this period and encourage any inquiries to be directed to the project hotline: 1800 440 584. Click on image to enlarge ![]() The A$226 million Boggo Road Busway will provide a dedicated public transport connection from the Princess Alexandra (PA) Hospital to the Eleanor Schonell Bridge and the University of Queensland. The Boggo Road Busway commences at the new PA Hospital busway station and continues through an underpass beneath the Queensland Rail lines, then travels parallel to the railway lines to reach the new Park Road busway station. From this point the busway will go underground through a 630m tunnel that passes beneath the Boggo Road Gaol, Gair Park and Annerley Road before emerging at the Eleanor Schonell Bridge in Dutton Park. View the Boggo Road Busway map (PDF, 316KB). The 1.5km busway includes two stations, one at the PA Hospital and the other adjacent to the Park Road rail station where passengers will be able to easily interchange between bus and rail services, providing access to the bus network and both the Gold Coast and Cleveland rail lines. The stations will be built with 24 hour security and 'real-time' electronic bus information. Two high-quality bus stops will also be provided for local residents at the Eleanor Schonell Bridge in Dutton Park. Dutton Park Place Drive will be modified to enable bus connections between the local road network and the dedicated busway. Once the busway is complete, express Annerley Road bus services will be diverted onto the busway, cutting travel times by 5 to 10 minutes. The Boggo Road Busway will connect to the South East Busway via the first section of the Eastern Busway. This section commences from the PA Hospital busway station then travels over Ipswich Road and through a tunnel under the Pacific Motorway. Visit the Eastern Busway web page to view more details. The Boggo Road Busway is expected to be completed by mid 2009 and will be used by 600 buses daily (this equates to around 13,000 passengers). The busway is part of the State Government's Integrated Regional Transport Plan for Queensland and is in keeping with the state's commitment to create Transit Oriented Developments (TODs). TODs remove the need for residents to rely on cars as their primary method of transportation through improved public transport services and connectivity. Q. How long before the busway is complete? A. Construction of the busway started in May 2006. It is scheduled to be completed from Ipswich Road through to the Eleanor Schonell Bridge by mid 2009. Q. How much will the project cost? A. The Queensland Government has allocated A$226 million for the Boggo Road Busway project. Q. Who is delivering the Boggo Road Busway? A. The Boggo Road Busway is being delivered by the Department of Main Roads for the TransLink Transit Authority. Q. Who is building the Boggo Road Busway? A. The Boggo Road Busway is being built under an Alliance with Thiess, Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) and Queensland Transport. SKM, an engineering consultancy, is responsible for the planning and design components of the project, while Thiess Pty Ltd is constructing the busway. Construction of the Boggo Road Busway remains on target for completion by mid 2009. Works are continuing in the area east of the Boggo Road Urban Village, in the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Queensland Rail areas. Tunnelling works from Park Road station to Dutton Park are well advanced. Site gates open at 6am to allow for the arrival of staff, equipment and for any preparatory activities deemed necessary for the commencement of work at 6.30am. View the current construction notice - effective 8 December 2008.
