The Queensland Government has committed $464 million to the Gold Coast Rapid Transit project. This funding, in conjunction with commitments by the Federal Government and Gold Coast City Council allows the project to transition from the planning phase and into procurement with early works activities scheduled to commence in late 2009. The Gold Coast Rapid Transit project has received a great kick-start with the Federal Government announcing funding for the project. The $365 million in Federal funding means the Gold Coast will have improved public transport sooner. The Queensland and Federal Governments will confirm the details of this funding. The project will generate 6,300 direct and indirect jobs during construction and commissioning, and will move 10,000 people an hour. Over the coming weeks, directly affected property owners will be sent a letter to advise further details about the anticipated timing for the commencement of the formal resumption process. For further information about property requirements, please contact the Gold Coast Rapid Transit project’s property team on 1800 967 377. The Queensland Government and the Gold Coast City Council are working together to build a light rail system between Helensvale and Coolangatta. The Gold Coast Rapid Transit project is a transport project to reduce congestion and improve public transport services across the city. Stage 1 of the project will link Griffith University (Southport campus) with Broadbeach, passing through the key activity centres of Southport and Surfers Paradise. On behalf of the Queensland Government, the project team undertook a Concept Design and Impact Management Plan to assess the benefits and impacts of the Gold Coast Rapid Transit system. The Concept Design and Impact Management Plan process is used by the state government for major infrastructure projects that do not require a formal Impact Assessment Study under state or federal legislation. The plan represents a best practice process of assessing and defining options to meet the project service requirements as well as assessing impacts and mitigation methods. The final Concept Design and Impact Management Plan is available for public review. However, due to the size of the document, we are unable to make it available on this website. Please contact the project team on 1800 967 377 to request a copy on disk or you can view the document at the project office in Southport. Please call 1800 967 377 to make an appointment.
