  • Bus operator Transit Systems has won the contract to deliver an Ipswich and Logan bus improvement package.
  • The first stage of the three-year, three-stage bus upgrade package will bring new services to the growth areas of Augustine Heights, Bellbird Park, Collingwood Park, and Redbank Plains as well as Springfield, Deebing Heights and Karalee.
  • The improved services will be supported by a new state-operated bus depot and state-owned buses.

Public transport in Ipswich is set for a major upgrade, with Transit Systems securing the contract to deliver the city’s transformative bus improvement package.

Following a competitive tender process, the company has pledged to employ 36 staff during the first year of operations—marking a strong commitment to both service enhancement and local job creation.

Some of Ipswich’s fastest-growing communities—including Augustine Heights, Bellbird Park, Collingwood Park, Redbank Plains, and Springfield—will benefit from new routes, better connections, and expanded services.

Transit Systems will mobilise over the next couple of months with services scheduled to start on 17 November 2025.

The Ipswich and Logan bus upgrades will roll out in three stages, as part of the $70 million Ipswich and Logan Services Improvement Package.

The new routes in stage one will enhance public transport for more than 42,300 residents, and about 8,200 residents will benefit from bus services for the first time.

New routes will connect Redbank Plains to Springfield, and Springfield to Ipswich, transforming local public transport connections and improving community access to jobs, healthcare, education, and other public transport services.

In addition to new services, more services between Browns Plains and Springfield will provide better connections with train services at Springfield Central.

Providing new buses and improving infrastructure will be an integral part of delivering the Ipswich bus upgrades.

A new state-managed bus depot at New Chum will initially accommodate 14 state-owned buses and support delivery of the four new stage one bus routes over the first year of operation.

Stage two of the bus depot development, due in 2026, will expand capacity to more than 240 buses to become the largest depot in Australia. The depot will support the entire bus improvement package that will be implemented progressively over the next three years.

Construction of new bus stops across Ipswich to accommodate the new routes is already underway, with work on many of the larger stops scheduled to begin in September. Final touches are being added to stops in newly serviced areas, ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with planned service expansion.

Full particulars of future stage two and three upgrades will be available closer to implementation as final details are settled.

  • 42,300 residents with improved access to bus services, including 8,200 accessing bus services for the first time
